Critical Thinking Through Language Arts

Samurai Academics’ Critical Thinking through Language Arts program contains several subcategories that students/parents can choose to focus on: learning to read, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, roots/stems/bases/suffix, composition, handwriting, and typing. New or early readers may benefit from starting in our learning to read program.

History

Samurai Academics' history program offers both Gallopade and Notgrass for our elementary school students.

Our middle and high school students use a mixture of A History of US, Black History 365, and An Indigenous History of the United States. This mixture allows students to experience historical events from multiple points of view, encouraging free thought and critical thinking.

Early Reading

Samurai Academics' early reading program has a few different curriculum options. We currently offer the Institute of Excellence in Writing, Hooked on Phonics, and Learning Dynamics. Each program focuses on helping students master phonemic skills, phonetic skills, and sight words to become strong successful readers.

Mentoring

Each month students will be asked to read and participate in a Samurai Academics blog centered on mindfulness and study skills. While in tutoring students will be aided in and required to keep neat and orderly binders, notebooks, and notecards for their tutoring sessions.

Mathematics

Samurai Academics offers a mathematics course that is aligned with the state mathematics common core from kindergarten through calculus. Our Corse is currently a mixture of Saxon Mathematics, Singapore, Spectrum, and personal teaching methods combined to fit the needs of your student.

Test Prep

In our test prep program, students will work through Barron’s practice tests and vocabulary with a tutor, take timed tests, learn and implement testing strategies, and review their practice tests to familiarize students with the exam of their choice as much as possible before their test date.
